18 December | Reform & Precinct Tracker

Please see below December's edition of the PremierNational Property, Planning and Infrastructure ‘Reform & Precinct Tracker’. This is a monthly newsletter prepared by PremierNational to track the progress of major NSW Government policy and regulatory proposals from the initial announcement through to implementation.

Importantly, we note that the NSW Government has now formalised its order to split up the Department of Planning and Environment over January 2024, creating the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water; and the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure in its place.

Included in this email, you will also find some high-level PremierNational insights into the Minister for Agriculture, Minister for Regional New South Wales and Minister for Western New South Wales, Tara Moriarty.

This will be PremierNational's final Reform & Precinct Tracker of 2023. On behalf of the PremierNational team, we wish you a wonderful break and a relaxing start to the new year ahead.

Please contact our Director Ilana Waldman if you have any questions with respect to any of these items.

REFORM + PRECINCT TRACKER

Tara Moriarty is a former senior union official with the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union (LHMU) who entered the NSW Upper House in 2019 before being named Minister for Agriculture, Regional NSW and Western NSW with the election of the Minns Labor Government.

Originally from Queanbeyan, Moriarty worked in childcare, office administration and hospitality, becoming a member of both the LHMU (later re-named United Voice and now amalgamated into the United Workers Union) and the Labor Party in 1996. She later worked for her union, becoming secretary and eventually president of her division.

Moriarty has served as chair of Club Plus Superannuation, having first joined its board in 2006, and as a director at the McKell Institute. She is a member of Labor’s Left faction, has been a member of the ALP National Executive and currently serves as Senior Vice-President of NSW Labor under President Michelle Rowland.

In addition to her current portfolio responsibilities, Moriarty previously served as Shadow Minister for Crown Lands; Corrections; Juvenile Justice; Medical Research; and Mental Health.

Moriarty is passionate about workplace rights and safety, particularly regarding the impacts of hazardous dusts in the workplace.
