REFORM + PRECINCT TRACKER

Paul Scully has served as Member for Wollongong since 2016, following a by-election to replace former Labor member Noreen Hay. Scully held Wollongong at the 2019 NSW election by a very safe margin of 21.4% and is expected to retain his seat comfortably in 2023. He currently serves as Shadow Minister for Planning and Public Spaces (since June 2021), Shadow Minister for Police, and Shadow Minister for Counter Terrorism (both since August 2022). He was also previously Shadow Minister for Natural Resources.

Scully was born, raised and educated in and around Wollongong, and attended the University of Wollongong. He was a member of Young Labor when he met his now-wife Alison Byrnes, who became the Member for Cunningham at the 2022 Federal Election. His professional career saw him become Chief Operating Officer of the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials at UOW.

Scully has a background in economics, served as a Chief of Staff in the Rudd Government, and is a member of NSW’s Labor Right. Among his policy priorities are enhanced health, transport and educational infrastructure, and addressing climate change and matters of environmental conservation.
