QUICK REFORM PROGRESS OVERVIEW
REFORM + PRECINCT TRACKER
Chris Minns became New South Wales’ 47th and current premier after leading the ALP to victory in the March 2023 state election. He has served as Member for Kogarah in Sydney’s south since 2015 and held several shadow ministerial portfolios including Water, Transport and Corrections.
Minns first joined Labor aged 17, becoming president of NSW Young Labor in 2002, and eventually serving as assistant secretary in NSW Labor and as Chief of Staff to then-Minister for Energy, Environment and Corrective Services, John Robertson. He also served as a staffer under Carl Scully and as deputy mayor of Hurstville in addition to his previous work as a firefighter.
Minns became Labor leader in June 2021 following former leader Jodi McKay’s resignation, backed by several prominent Labor MPs including now-Environment Minister Penny Sharpe and now-Deputy Premier Prue Car.
Minns is a member of Labor’s Right faction. At the time of writing, increasing housing supply and density are among the Premier’s highest policy priorities.
