Minister Ward has considerable experience across law, public affairs, policy and government, and has held senior positions in private legal practice, politics and government sectors.

Ward is passionate about law and justice, finance, sport, and women's participation. Ward plays an active role in her communities. She served as a Director of the Rugby Australia Foundation, has been on the Board of Women Lawyers and The Rotary Club of Sydney and the current Deputy President of The Scots College Foundation Board.

Ward has been a member of the Liberal Party since 1991 and served in various capacities including as a Branch President, Conference Vice-President, Convention Committee member, Women’s Council Executive, Chair of Constitution Standing Committee and Urban Representative on the NSW State Executive. Ward's base for the Upper House is the North Shore/Manly.

Ward is progressive on social issues and is a key figure in the NSW moderate faction.
